Day 2

Day 2 sees England take on Paraguay in the first fixture. A lackluster (to put it in decent way) performance by England would have resulted in a tame, dull, boring 0-0 draw but Carlos Gamarra - the Paraguay skipper - made sure someone leaves the pitch as the winner by scoring an own goal to hand England a win it did not deserve. Right from the second minute, after Gamarra put one past his own keeper - England looked contended to hang on to the lead for the remaining 88 minutes or so. If this was the team which was expected to win the World Cup this year, I would seriously have to think about my bets! Am sorry, but I don't see this England team going to far if they continue to play the same way.
England 1-0 Paraguay
2-Gamarra(PAR) O.G

Sweden took on debutants Trinidad and Tobago and much was expected out of them. A 3-0 or some even predicted a 5-0 rout here with maybe Ibrahimovic completing a hat-trick. But unfortunately the game was an entirely different ball game and T&T held the Swedes for a 0-0 draw. They managed to keep Larsson and co at bay thanks to some fine goal keeping by Hislop and the fact that they had to fight it out with ten men in the second half shows the strength of character these guys have. The draw puts Sweden in tight spot now, and they have must win situation now, against Paraguay and England! Not an easy task, but looking at England's performance, they might be able to sneak in a goal.
Trinidad & Tobago 0-0 Sweden

The final game put the contenders Argentina against another debutant Cote d'Ivoire (The 'old' Ivory Coast). Argentina had the legendary Maradona cheering them from the stands and they got off to a good start with Crespo giving them the lead and soon Saviola doubled it. Though Argentina had a comfortable lead, Chelsea's Drogba managed to pull one back to set up a tense 10 minutes. Argentina look on course for a good run, but this is just the beginning and there is a long long way to go!
Argentina 2 - 1 Ivory Coast
23-Crespo(ARG), 37-Saviola(ARG), 82-Drogba(ICO)
